While it may not be ideal to eat three meals a day in bed, having a breakfast-in-bed for two every now and then is one of life’s simple luxuries. In fact, breaking the usual morning routine and enjoying a cozy meal first thing is a great way to spend a little extra time together and reconnect.
Bedrooms are the perfect setting for many things: While most experts recommend that you use them as sleeping chambers only, they have quickly become a venue for socializing (as anyone who has ever checked their Instagram feed in bed can tell you), a quiet place to get some work done (hence the proliferation of desks in a once-forbidden zone), or a sanctuary in which to escape the bustle of the outside world (preferably in a comfy armchair, good book in hand).
This room, with its mixed traditional furnishings and contemporary details, takes its inspiration from a Japanese garden. The furniture comes from a number of sources. Some pieces are antique or vintage―the original recycled product―and others are made from reclaimed wood, but the majority is from nearby furniture companies committed to manufacturing in environmentally sensitive ways. For flooring, a fast-growing yet durable bamboo with a dark stain was chosen to keep the room from looking too contemporary.
Platform beds are also known as cabin beds. They are a more modern version of the traditional bed and features several key elements. One of them is the structure of the bed itself. It consists of a solid horizontal frame, usually of a rectangular shape, often with a section that features flexible wooden slats that are designed to support the mattress. This provides a flexible support for the mattress as well as ventilation, eliminating the need of any other supportive structure.
